Kanshitsu Guinomi Nuno-asobi Gold inside 乾漆ぐいのみ ぬのあそび 内金箔
This is a one-of-a-kind piece by the lacquer artist Atsuko Nakajima (中島敦子).
And as you see, it is a total work of hands by the artist. The series "Nuno-asobi (ぬのあそび: playing with cloth) " is one of the signature lines of work by the artist that she has been exploring for years in many forms.
Guinomi (ぐい呑み) is a cup for sake (Japanese rice liquor). This is regular size as a Guinomi of XXml or 0.XX pint as a content volume. Made by Kanshitsu (乾漆) method, it is very light in weight and fits in your hands, since the artist has nurtured many many times in her hands to complete this form.
The real beauty comes when you pour sake into this Guinomi. The reflection from the gold is superbly gorgeous but not flashy due to the red coloring and the urushi lacquer coating over the gold, giving calm bronze gold color. And again it fits right in your palm, as you hold it. We are sure that your sake will taste excellent with this beautiful art piece.
Atsuko Nakajima illustrates this work as followings; " Many layers of linen cloth are applied over the mold with urushi lacquer. After the thickness of the cloth is achieved, it is released from the mold and finished by applying lacquer over and over, a technique called "kanshitsu". The outside is made by patching the cloth and the dented area is covered with colored foil."

Shipping and handling fees (Revised Dec. 2022)
For limited destinations of;

> Shipping and handling fees have changed, and it will be Free of Charge, when purchased over 45,000 JPY (approx. 330USD) per order.
> Shipping and handling fees will be at the maximum 2,900 JPY (= approx. 22 USD) per order, it is when purchased less than 10,000 JPY. It will decrease based on your purchase amount per order.
For other destinations,(US, EU, Oceania) please see the "International Shipping & Handling fees" listed on the FOOTER below.
However in any case, please note that the international shipping and handling fees are exclusive of any customs duties and taxes levied by the country you are shipping to.
Shipping operation
All orders are shipped from Kogei Styling in Tokyo, Japan. We operate Monday through Friday and are closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Japanese National holidays. Orders submitted on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday (based on Japan Standard Time) will be processed on the following Monday (if Monday is a National Holiday then on the following business day), however, some exceptions may apply.
Due to the very slow international traffic, duration, before you receive your order, is expected as follows;
- Hong Kong 3-5 days
- Singapore 3-4 days
- Taiwan 4-5 days
- United States 8-12 days
Order tracking
All orders can be tracked during shipment and we will notify you of the tracking number and other necessary information as soon as it is available to us.
Shipping service providers
Based on the service quality and the reliability of the shipping company with respect to a particular order, we may use
Japan Post EMS (Express Quality Service by Japan Post Co.,Ltd., who also may use local posting operation at the destination countries), Yamato Transport Co., Ltd.
for international shipments (local transportation may be handled by different local companies from time to time). All International shipments from Japan are by air.
Shipping Insurance
For international shipping, shipping insurance (Maximum of 2,000,000 JPY per package) is included in the shipping and handling fees. Practically the full value of the products is insured. Important point is that the damage needs to be claimed by us Kogei Styling to the courier. And the courier will make an investigation based on our claim. Please be careful that once the shipment reaches its destination and accepted it may no longer be insured by the shipping insurance. So please let us know immediately if there is a problem with the packaged arrived.
Domestic Shipping within Japan
For domestic shipping within Japan, we collect consumption tax and charge shipping and handling fees. Domestic shipping and handling fees may be adjusted according to the size and the destination of your shipment.
For domestic shipping, the terms are identical to the terms for international shipping except that the maximum insured value is 300,000 JPY.

Our fine Japanese lacquerwares are basically made of genuine natural wood and natural urushi lacquer. The Worst things to the fine lacquerwares are Drying and giving Heat Shocks.
As an urushi lacquer's natural characteristics, it hardens most under humidity of 70-80% (RH) and a temperature of 20-25 degrees Celsius (68-77°F). Therefore, humidity is good for urushi lacquer, by nature, and for the base wood as well.
Just keeping the fine Japanese lacquerware in a dry cupboard all through a year is not what you want to do. Periodic Use is the Best Care for your fine Japanese lacquerware since the Moisture it gives to both the lacquer and the wood maintains and extends the quality and the life of both.
Japanese natural urushi lacquerware will literary shine more after your use, due to the moisture given, and the repeated use and wiping with a soft cloth. This is proof of the natural urushi lacquer product and authenticity. It does not happen with a chemical product.
Please be a little careful not to scratch fine lacquerwares with rough ceramics or metals, urushi lacquer coatings are tough but not hard as them. When putting them away, please try to keep your fine Japanese lacquerware from the direct sunlight. Urushi lacquer is vulnerable to UV rays.

- Please Do NOT use the lacquerware in a microwave oven.

Please Do NOT use the lacquerware in a dishwasher and dryer.

Please Do NOT leave the lacquerware in a refrigerator for a long time. A couple of hours is OK.

Please Do NOT expose the lacquerware in the direct sunlight for a long time.
- An example indicator for the acceptable duration is that your exposed skin can accept.
- The reason is that the UV rays will degrade the urushi lacquer coating from its structure.

Please wash by hand using lukewarm water with a soft sponge using liquid mild detergents.

Please avoid using a scrub sponge or hard sponge that might scratch the surface.

Please wipe with a dry soft cloth after rinse.

Please do not stack lacquerwares on/under coarse or rough ceramics, it will damage the surface.

Please avoid using metal silverware directly on them.
- In case if there is a crack or a chip, please contact us for a repair. Water or any liquid will permeate through those cracks and in the long run it will damage the coatings and the lacquerware.
If you handle with care, it will shine through your life.
* This instruction is not intended for antique or collectible fine Japanese lacquerware. They should be treated specially since they may have small cracks in the lacquer coatings that permeate through to the core wood.
