Wajimaya Zen-ni told us that this Mug Cup is their long seller. They say that it has been in their line-up for more than 15 years. In the case of true urushi lacquerware with a handle, the cost will inevitably rise. For this Mug Cup, the cup portion and the handle portion are made separately until the middle coating is done. And then attach them just before the final coating. The reason is to securely coat the cup portion and the handle. Since there is an optimized Wajima-nuri lacquering process for a rotating body, the base coating layers and the polishing of the coatings layers are done on the rotating table and it could be swiftly and finely done as you do on owans.

Wajimaya Zen-ni says that this Mug Cup was designed with a different concept than ordinary lacquerware. It was designed to have sturdy feelings along with some weight of the cup, thus having a slightly thicker wood core compared to others that are normally designed to make it as light as they can.
