Junichi Hakose 箱瀬淳一

Renge Muji Black 無地 黒

€100,95

Lacquerwork master Junichi Hakose is now more famous for his creation of art in maki-e (sprinkled picture in gold and other materials), however, the real beauty of his creation lies in the usable form and coating quality of the lacquerware body he makes.

Junichi Hakose is a maki-e craftsman, who finished the rigorous Wajima lacquerware apprentice system. However soon after he became an independent lacquerware craftsman, he focused on making simple plain no-maki-e day-to-day Wajima lacquerware, for ten years. Wow, that is a long time. It sounds like he didn’t like maki-e. No, instead, he then pursued his enthusiasm to create his ideal form of the lacquerware and his ideal finish of the urushi lacquer coatings, also with improved usability for daily use.

When you see his maki-e lacquerware, you will be thrilled by the elegance and the detailed beauty that his maki-e decoration possesses. But the more you see those his items, you’ll understand that his lacquerware body is the essential part of the beauty and elegance. Without an independent sublime beauty of the lacquerware body, the maki-e decoration can never be elegant as it hopes to be.  So by now, I hope you understand that the "Muji", meaning plain, no maki-e, item from Junichi Hakose is also worth considering.

The work of this Renge spoon looks very simple and plain.  But if you look in detail, this Renge spoon has subtle curvature here and there, which in turn makes this spoon very comfortable to use. Lacquerware spoon is light in weight, compared to silverwares, and the heat transmission is low, therefore it is especially good when you have hot soups, stews or even cold yogurt or cereals with this spoon. It delivers milder touch to your taste. We hope you’ll find a unique role for this Renge spoon since it is made for your use.

< Guide >

Our fine Japanese lacquerwares are basically made of genuine natural wood and natural urushi lacquer. The Worst things to the fine lacquerwares are Drying and giving Heat Shocks.

As an urushi lacquer's natural characteristics, it hardens most under humidity of 70-80% (RH) and a temperature of 20-25 degrees Celsius (68-77°F). Therefore, humidity is good for urushi lacquer, by nature, and for the base wood as well.

Just keeping the fine Japanese lacquerware in a dry cupboard all through a year is not what you want to do. Periodic Use is the Best Care for your fine Japanese lacquerware since the Moisture it gives to both the lacquer and the wood maintains and extends the quality and the life of both.

Japanese natural urushi lacquerware will literary shine more after your use, due to the moisture given, and the repeated use and wiping with a soft cloth. This is proof of the natural urushi lacquer product and authenticity. It does not happen with a chemical product.

Please be a little careful not to scratch fine lacquerwares with rough ceramics or metals, urushi lacquer coatings are tough but not hard as them. When putting them away, please try to keep your fine Japanese lacquerware from the direct sunlight. Urushi lacquer is vulnerable to UV rays.
