Junichi Hakose 箱瀬淳一
Junichi Hakose is a native to the home of traditional Wajima lacquerware. Even though Junichi Hakose was trained as a maki-e (picture drawing technique with sprinkles of gold) craftsman, being a fast learner, he subsequently mastered all the other important process techniques of Wajima lacquer works (mainly, base coating/middle coating/top coating/polishing), which was a rare case in the old days.
Hakose’s comprehensive accumulation of Wajima lacquerware manufacturing skills eventually formed the delicate and elegant style of his works to this day. Even after Junichi Hakose has become one of the most internationally acclaimed Japanese lacquer artists and have worked with the finest French jewelers such as Van Cleef & Arpels or Chanel for more than 12 years, his only desire is to have his works used every day by everyone who has one in their hands.
Junichi Hakose now takes several apprentices and runs his workshop "Hakose Koubou(箱瀬工房)" in the house he was born.
