Reia Momose 百瀬玲亜

Guinomi Suigetsu 水月 黒 sake cup

€277,95

The first impression of this original Guinomi (ぐい呑み larger size sake cup) by Reia Momose's is extraordinary distinctive but not pushy. It is made with the kanshitsu (乾漆,hollow dry lacquer) method, which only uses urushi lacquer and linen cloth to form the structure. Here she applied 4 layers of 100% natural urushi lacquer coating and linen cloth to create a thick structure and 3 layers of urushi lacquer coating each on both sides of the structure to form the glossy cosmetic surface. This method is a primitive means of the fiber-reinforced resin(plastic). Thereby it is very light and strong with most of the material being very hard urushi lacquer itself, once it is dried.

Holistic expression is very unique to this guinomi sake cup with a very stable large foot. This sake cup is newly designed and created for Kogei Styling by Reia with a relatively large content volume, that you would not see anywhere else. This is small but fine representative of Reia's firm work as an urushi artist. Gold/orange color is the color of real gold and natural urushi. The gold film is placed inside out and the urushi coating on top creates the signature orange color. Which is creating beautiful glitter without being too much. The dotted texture also creates a unique universe inside and outside the cup without being too plain.

This unique style sake cup is sure to satisfy your love of Japanese works of art in lacquerware and bring you Reia Momose's beautiful universe.
No special care is needed but please rinse with lukewarm water with a soft sponge after use.

Shipping Service Providers

Depending on service quality and reliability for a particular order, we may use Japan Post EMS (Express Quality Service by Japan Post Co., Ltd., which may also involve local postal operations at the destination) or Yamato Transport Co., Ltd.

Shipping to the U.S.A.:

Since August 2025, the US Government has required all imported goods from Japan to be subject to an additional 15% tariff. Japanese-made lacquerware is subject to a total of 15% tariff.

Since then, Yamato Transport (with UPS handling final delivery) has been the only courier we use for shipments to the United States, as Japan Post does not handle items subject to duties. Additionally, the maximum value per package is restricted to 200,000 JPY. Therefore, if the value of your order exceeds 200,000 JPY, please allow us to split the shipment into two or more packages. In that case, you will be asked to pay customs clearance and handling fees from UPS of approximately USD 15–25 per shipment. We appreciate your understanding.

All international shipments from Japan are sent by air. Local transportation at the destination may be handled by different local courier partners from time to time.

Shipping Insurance

For international shipments, shipping insurance — up to the claimed product value, with a maximum of 2,000,000 JPY — is included in the shipping and handling fees. In practice, the full value of the products is insured.

Please note: any damage claim must be submitted to the courier by Kogei Styling, and the courier will conduct an investigation based on our claim.

Once a shipment has reached its destination and has been accepted by the recipient, it may no longer be covered by shipping insurance. Please contact us immediately if there is any problem with your package upon arrival.

Domestic Shipping within Japan

For domestic shipping within Japan, we collect consumption tax and charge shipping and handling fees. Domestic fees may be adjusted according to the size and destination of your shipment.

Domestic shipping terms are identical to our international shipping terms, except that the maximum insured value for domestic shipments is 300,000 JPY.

< Guide >

Our fine Japanese lacquerware is basically made of genuine natural wood and natural urushi lacquer. The Worst things for the fine lacquerwares are Drying and giving Heat Shocks.

As an urushi lacquer's natural characteristics, it hardens most under humidity of 70-80% (RH) and a temperature of 20-25 degrees Celsius (68-77°F). Therefore, humidity is good for urushi lacquer, by nature, and for the base wood as well.

Just keeping the fine Japanese lacquerware in a dry cupboard all through the year is not what you want to do. Periodic Use is the Best Care for your fine Japanese lacquerware since the Moisture it gives to both the lacquer and the wood maintains and extends the quality and the life of both.

Japanese natural urushi lacquerware will literally shine more after your use, due to the moisture given, and the repeated use and wiping with a soft cloth. This is proof of the natural urushi lacquer product and its authenticity. It does not happen with a chemical product.

Please be a little careful not to scratch fine lacquerwares with rough ceramics or metals, urushi lacquer coatings are tough but not as hard as them. When putting them away, please try to keep your fine Japanese lacquerware from direct sunlight. Urushi lacquer is vulnerable to UV rays.

< Care Instructions for Genuine Lacquerware >

  • Please Do NOT use the lacquerware in a microwave oven.

  • Please Do NOT use the lacquerware in a dishwasher and dryer.

  • Please Do NOT leave the lacquerware in a refrigerator for a long time. A couple of hours is OK.

  • Please Do NOT expose the lacquerware to direct sunlight for a long time.

    • An example indicator for the acceptable duration is the amount of time your exposed skin can accept.
    • The reason is that the UV rays will degrade the urushi lacquer coating from its structure.

  • Please wash by hand using lukewarm water with a soft sponge using mild liquid detergents.

  • Please avoid using a scrub sponge or a hard sponge that might scratch the surface.

  • Please wipe with a dry soft cloth after rinsing.

  • Please do not stack lacquerware on/under coarse or rough ceramics, as it will damage the surface.

  • Please avoid using metal silverware directly on them.

  • In case if there is a crack or a chip, please contact us for a repair. Water or any liquid will permeate through those cracks, and in the long run, it will damage the coatings and the lacquerware.

If you handle it with care, it will shine through your life.

* This instruction is not intended for antique or collectible fine Japanese lacquerware. They should be treated specially since they may have small cracks in the lacquer coatings that permeate through to the core wood.
